I’m Andy Balmer, a sociologist in the Department of Sociology at the University of Manchester. I have previously worked in sociology departments at the University of Sheffield and University of Nottingham. I did my PhD at the Institute for Science and Society at Nottingham. That’s enough about me.
My blog is about many things, though generally having to do with science and technology, approached from one of a number of social, cultural or critical perspectives. Recurring themes are likely to be: neuroscience; lying; lie detection technologies and practices; synthetic biology; interdisciplinarity; methods and research; and theories, the zanier the better.
